It seems a fan-favourite Coronation Street couple are facing a heartbreaking split after a cheating scandal.
A Coronation Street couple may be facing an emotional breakup following a shocking cheating confession.
Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) and Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) first began their romance a few years ago. Despite being an unlikely pairing, their relationship grew stronger over time.
After getting engaged last year, Bernie and Dev made it official by tying the knot in August. But married life hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for the couple.
Fans will remember that Dev’s daughter, Asha (Tanisha Gorey), attempted to take her own life after the trainee paramedic became the target of a vicious racist attack from a drunken woman, Naomi, whom Asha had been trying to help while on shift.
At the start of the year, Bernie’s son-in-law, Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), was tragically killed in the dramatic Corriedale crash. Fans will remember he died after being caught in a vehicle pile-up. Following Billy’s death, Bernie struggled deeply and began to spiral.
In her turmoil, she ended up taking drugs with a stranger, Mal (Tim Treloar), in his hotel room, and the two shared a kiss. Bernie eventually left, but was later discovered unconscious, slumped in a nightclub toilet cubicle by a group of girls.
Although Bernie told Dev about taking drugs in the hotel, she didn’t mention what had happened with Mal. Recently on the soap, however, Mal has been harassing and verbally abusing Bernie after she turned him down.
As a result, Bernie has been left feeling terrified. In Wednesday’s episode (February 25), she opened up to copper and her son, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), about the ordeal.
Later in the episode, Dev returned home after spending a few days away with Asha, and Bernie finally revealed the truth about Mal — leaving Dev utterly heartbroken.
Now that the secret is out, fans are speculating that a split could be on the horizon for Bernie and Dev. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: “I’m glad Bernie came clean, but I think Dev will end it.” Another simply replied: “Probably.” A third added: “Can no one be happy on that street!”
