A Coronation Street star has hinted at who might be the next murder victim on the cobbles in the coming weeks.
The identity of the soap’s upcoming victim may have been revealed after one actor shared a major “spoiler.” Last week, the long-running ITV show aired a special flashforward episode that named five residents who could potentially meet their end in April.
Among those at risk are three of the biggest villains on the cobbles — Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon), Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), and Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) — as well as Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) and newcomer Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown).
In a dramatic flashback, young Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) told police she had discovered a dead body on the night of her mum Lisa’s (Vicky Myers) wedding to Carla Connor (Alison King).
Footage then showed the possible victims looking frightened in the middle of the night on the cobbles. But which one’s fate is truly sealed remains a mystery.
A betting spokesperson recently revealed that Carl is the favourite to be killed off this spring, with odds of 4/5. Megan is next at 3/1, followed by Theo at 5/1. Maggie and Jodie are considered the least likely victims, with odds of 9/1 and 20/1, respectively.
Carl actor Jonathan Howard has fueled further speculation after appearing on ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday, February 25.
Soap expert Sharon Marshall reported live from the Rovers Return as the Corrie cast prepared to film Lisa and Carla’s wedding. During a break, Jonathan spoke to Sharon, and fans quickly noticed a prominent bruise around his eye.
Sharon teased: “We know that filming is happening this week where someone will meet their end.”
Referencing Jonathan’s visible injury, she added: “You may have unintentionally given us a little spoiler. You were frantically wiping your face with a wet wipe… We couldn’t quite get rid of the black eye they’d applied for filming.”
Jonathan replied: “Yes, the make-up team did an amazing job this morning covering me in blood, because Carl is about to get into some serious trouble… He gets into a few fights, yeah. Things are going to get pretty rough for Carl.”
Carl has already made plenty of enemies on the cobbles, after stealing his brother Kevin’s (Michael Le Vell) wife Abi (Sally Carman) and then cheating on her with James Bailey (Jason Callender). That’s not all — Carl also ran over Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) and drove drunk in the Corriedale episode, before framing his mum, Debbie (Sue Devaney), as the culprit.
“I’m not exactly the nicest person on the street at the moment,” Jonathan admitted, adding, “I’ve had a brilliant time here, really enjoyed it… We’ll see what happens in the future.” Fans quickly noticed his use of the past tense, leaving Sharon visibly surprised.
Viewers were also quick to pick up on the hints Jonathan dropped during the interview. One person wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Did Jonathan Howard slip up? He definitely looked a bit panicked when he spoke in the past tense about his time on #Corrie.”
Another commented: “The actor playing Carl is casually sitting in the Rovers with a black eye being interviewed by Sharon.” Could Carl be the secret murder victim? Only time will tell.
