Coronation Street actor Joe Duttine has been a popular figure on the cobbles since 2013 — but he appears very different with a full head of hair.
Joe Duttine has become a much-loved presence on Coronation Street as Tim Metcalfe, although the actor looks noticeably different when seen with a full head of hair.
He joined the ITV soap in 2013 as Faye Windass’ (Ellie Leach) estranged father and quickly became a favourite among viewers.
As the Street Cars driver, Tim has played a key role in many memorable storylines — from his hilarious bromance with best mate Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) to enduring a savage attack that almost cost him his life.
His relationship and eventual marriage to Sally (Sally Dynevor) has also been a major highlight of the show. The pair started dating in 2013 and went on to marry two years later, in 2015.
Before stepping onto the famous cobbles, Joe had already built up an impressive TV résumé, appearing in well-known shows such as Lovejoy and A Touch of Frost. His big break came in 1994 when he played Steve Turner in the detective comedy Pie in the Sky, where he starred opposite Harry Potter actor Richard Griffiths, according to the Mirror.
He later landed notable roles in series including Life on Mars and New Tricks, and went on to portray Joe in the 2007 miniseries Time of Your Life and Rutter in 2013’s The Village.
Interestingly, three years before debuting as Tim, the actor briefly appeared in the ITV soap. For a short period, viewers could spot him on the cobbles in a minor role as D.
Before becoming a permanent face on Weatherfield, Joe had already made brief appearances. But it’s a throwback photo of him that’s been sparking plenty of chatter among fans lately.
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, someone shared a picture of Joe from 2001 at the Venice Film Festival, showing him with a full head of hair.
In the comments, fans were quick to praise him. One wrote, “Witwoo Tim! Looking so handsome.” Another admitted, “I didn’t recognise him at first.” A third gushed, “Absolutely gorgeous!”
Joe didn’t just find fame on Coronation Street — he also found love. The actor is married to Sally Carman, who plays Abi Webster on the show.
The couple began dating after meeting on set in 2018 and became engaged in 2020.
After multiple delays due to Covid, they finally tied the knot in July 2022. The happy pair exchanged vows at St Philip’s Church in Salford, with Sally embracing her new role as stepmother to Joe’s three children.
