Emmerdale’s Kevin Mathurin has become a fan favorite on the ITV soap, and it turns out he’s in a relationship with a well-known partner in real life.
Kevin’s character, village vicar Charles Anderson, first appeared on our screens in 2020, quickly winning over viewers. Over the years, Charles has played a central role in many major storylines.
From his doomed romance with Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) to the heartbreaking loss of his son Ethan (Emile John), Charles’ time in the village has been full of drama.
In 2023, his mother Claudette (Flo Wilson) arrived in the Dales, immediately stirring up trouble. In Wednesday’s episode (February 25), Charles and Claudette attend the wake of Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) following his death.
Outside of the long-running ITV drama, Kevin Mathurin, who plays Charles, leads a much calmer life and is devoted to his long-term partner, who is a well-known figure, according to the Mirror.
Kevin has been in a relationship with international DJ Nikki Beatnik since 2011. Nikki has worked with A-list stars such as Kelis, Jay-Z, and Kanye West, and the couple share a son named Harley.
Like Kevin, Nikki also works in the entertainment world as both a DJ and producer. In 2016, she spoke about her career to The Standard, saying: “I’ve met some cool, interesting people.”
She recalled: “One night, Spike Jones hung out with me in the booth, but I didn’t say a word because I was completely focused on DJing.
“Another time, we went out with Tom Jones, and I thought, ‘This is crazy.’ I’ve also done parties for Alicia Keys a few times, and she’d bring along people like Stevie Wonder.”
Meanwhile, in 2023, Kevin—who commutes from his family home in south London to Leeds for filming—opened up about his relationship with Nikki. He revealed that she would have “killed him” if he hadn’t accepted the role of Charles on Emmerdale, as she knows how important it is to him.
“I do feel guilty being away from the family, especially when the schedule is hectic and I’m working five days a week. It breaks my heart when I get a little voice message from my eight-year-old son, Harley, saying he misses me,” Kevin told OK.
“It’s particularly tough for Nikki, as she’s the one managing all the school runs and after-school activities, knowing that Harley and my 14-year-old daughter, Gracie, are missing their dad.
“Even after a long day of filming, I always feel so much empathy for Nikki when we catch up on a video call in the evening.”
Kevin added, “But she also understands what it’s like to have a job you love. She’s passionate about her work too. Thankfully, if we’re both busy with our careers, the grandparents are there to help out.”
